Angela Dawson, M.D., appears to have it all: at thirty-seven, she owns a fabulous New York City apartment, a stunning seaside house on Nantucket, and enjoys the perks of her prosperous lifestyle. However, her climb to the top was far from easy, marked by a troubled childhood, a failed marriage, and the devastating blow of bankruptcy as a primary-care internist. Aware of the role of economics in modern life, especially in healthcare, Angela returned to school to earn an MBA. Armed with a new degree and a determined spirit, she founded Angels Healthcare, a start-up company, and took it public. With her controlling interest in three specialty hospitals in New York City, Angelas future seemed bright. But then, a surge of drug-resistant staph infections devastates her hospitals. Not only do these infections result in patient deaths, but they also cause stock prices to plummet, leaving analysts wondering if Angela can hold her empire together. New York City medical examiners Laurie Montgomery and Jack Stapleton, newly married, become intrigued by the uptick in staph-related deaths. But as Laurie investigates, she uncovers a corporate intrigue that threatens not only her career but her life with Jack as well.
