Writing in the episitatory style of other “Uncle Eric” books, Richard Maybury breaks down the influences, causes, and effects of World War I in easily digestable letters. Looking at neutrality, fascism, The “Old War” cycle of wars, manifest destiny, Switzerland’s example, “The White Man’s Burden” and other elements that led to the U.S. government’s involvement, Maybury presents a radically different view of a war that’s been so romanticized and lauded by Hollywood and History.
